The arrival of the potato in Iceland


The potato is believed to have arrived in Iceland in the 17. century. That century was however besotted with plagues, hardship and devastation. Every five years was marked by nationwide hunger, every four years the following century, the 18. It was though in that century that saw the arrival of the potato in Iceland. The specimen came from Sweden via Denmark.
