Ásmundur Gunnlaugsson was born 1789 on the farm Ríp in Hegranes in the north of Iceland. He studied to become a priest and worked as such in Siglufjörður for a while. But he was not like your ordinary priest. Always created a stir wherever he went and eventually lost his priesthood and settled on another farm in the north and lived quite a fascinating life there. Úlfar Þormóðsson offers an interesting glimpse into the common life in Iceland in the eighteenth century.
