Þorsteinn Gíslason (1867 – 1938) was an influential figure in Icelandic politics and culture in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth. One of the pioneers behind the founding of the University of Iceland, member of parliament as well a prolific translator and a poet. This is his  autobiography that offers an interesting viewpoint into Icelandic society at the time.
