The reverend Ólafur Jónsson (1560–1627) was a very popular poet in his time. The poetry of others from the time are scattered and preserved in various manuscripts. Ólafur however meticulously collected his poetry in a book that has simply been called Book of Poems. It is not only a remarkable example of Icelandic literature of the  time but also a valuable glimpse into song and music and how it was practiced.
