Sóleyjarkvæði by Jóhannes úr Kötlum was published in 1952. Straight into the arsenal of poetry written in the Cold War climate the poem is a romantic eulogy about the independence of the country. Pétur Pálsson later composed music to accompany the poem that was first played in 1965 as a part of protests agains the American army base in Keflavik. The book is published celebrating the eighty years anniversary of the Mál og menning publication.
