Piltur og stúlka, first published in Copenhagen in 1850 then again in Reykjavík 1867 in an expanded version, marked the beginning of modern novel writing in Iceland. The dialogue and narration are still relevant, humorous and with a gallery of charcters alive and well in the Icelandic consciousness still today. Historian Már Jónsson, a descendant of the author Jón Thoroddsen, is in charge of the publication and writes an introduction.
