Paul Gaimard (1793 – 1858) had already traveled the world over, twice, before coming to Iceland in 1835. The effect was like after a hurricane. The natives were simply in love with the man and he with them. He conducted the greatest scientific research ever made about the remote island with drawings the provided a rare glimpse into the everyday life of the inhabitants. Still he is today relatively unknown, forgotten.
