When the British army invaded Iceland on the tenth of May 1940, the Icelandic authorities were quickly concerned about the Icelandic population's relationship with the soldiers. Particularly the women. 

The authorities soon established a police force and rehabilitation homes for these girls. The author of this book, historian Bára Baldursdóttir, has been studying the archive of letters only recently made available that shed a new light on this situation in Iceland's history.
