Kristín Svava Tómasdóttir author of f.ex. Stund klámsins, is a poet and a historian. Here she mixes the two professions marvelously. The poems here are inspired by reading of a three volume Icelandic book about Icelandic midwives and their truly heroic deeds through the centuries, published in 1962 - 1964.
