The first drawing in the lottery of University of Iceland was held in Reykjavík, in a theater called Iðnó to be precise, in March 1934. In a surprisingly short time, the lottery won the hearts of many in Iceland and became very popular. Here historian Stefán Pálsson provides a lively account of this lottery so important and central to the history and development of the University of Iceland itself.
