In the year 1919, after the First World War, the Danish authorities are skeptical about Iceland's abilities to stand on its own feet as planned according to the agreements made in 1918. So they introduce a skilled and experienced diplomat, half Icelandic Johannes Erhardt Böggild to serve as the first ambassador to reside in Iceland. He is to lead the country's development into a sovereign state.
