Friðrik Ólafsson is an Icelandic chess grandmaster. He also was the president of the governing body of interanation chess, FIDE. After his tenure as president of FIDE he was the Secretary to the Icelandic Parliament. This is the biography written by another Icelandic grandmaster Helgi Ólafsson and offers an interesting picture of the role of chess in international politics at the time and of course the art of chess as well.
