Jón Halldórsson (1838 - 1919) was one of the first Icelanders that settled in America in the nineteenth century. He lived in Nebraska and was a pioneer among the Icelandic settlers there in many ways. Always a very ardent writer and kept a diary all his life. This book, edited by Úlfur Bragason, is centered around his letter writings back to Iceland that contain his thoughts about the society he left behind and his hopes for the new society he wanted to help build.
