Þormóður Torfason (1636 - 1719) was certainly a remarkable character in Icelandic history. As a young man he was to collect as many old manuscripts in Iceland as he could and bring them to the king in Denmark. That was the beginning of a long and successful career as a historian spending most of his life in Norway.
