Midwifery is an only women profession in Iceland. No male is working as a midwife in Iceland and the country is the only country where that is the case. Earlier in history of Iceland however it was not uncommon for men to be midwives. Here, nurse and historian Erla Dóris Halldórsdóttir provides an important account of the history of male midwives in Iceland.
