Early spring 1845, a young Austrian woman embarked in Hafnafirði. Her name was Ida Pfeiffer a travel book author that was on her trip expedition gathering material for her book about the Nordic countries. She had high hopes about the country, its people and nature. Her writings offer a unique perspective on Iceland at the time and the Icelandic bourgeoisie.
